With this issue's special feature focusing on Sports, Exercise, & Rehabilitation, we've got a great interview with Dr. Kathleen Baumgardner, beginning on page 28. In Dr. Baumgardner's family based practice, the philosophy is that "every patient is an athlete." So, for those of you who aren't really that interested in getting into major sports and rehab issues, but rather in discovering simple ways in which you can improve your patient care with rehab and exercise, this article is a good start! And, at the end of the interview is a "Tool Kit" of products and equipment that Dr. Baumgardner uses in her clinic. We just love to show you how technology can revolutionize your patient care!! In fact, in our cover photo, Dr. Baumgardner is using one of her newest pieces of rehab related equipment, the FAS Scanner by Foot Levelers. For those of you interested in more Sports/Rehab ideas, on page 32, Dr. Kim Christensen advises that "Small Steps Lead to Recovery" when treating athletic injuries in patients who are not necessarily athletes; Dr. Christine Foss's article on page 42, "Sports, Exercise, & Rehab," discusses the phases of care which arc necessary to educate non-athlete patients during rehabilitative care, and, thus, help them to prevent re-injury; and, finally. Dr. John Danchik's "Athletes and Hip Injuries: Can Orthotics Help?" on page 34, gets specific about how to treat the competitive, as well as the recreational athlete. On another note, in this issue, 7>iC is proud to announce the addition of a new column on Practice Building, written by one of our longtime friends, Dr. Eric Kaplan. Dr. Kaplan's first article, entitled "7 Habits of Highly Effective Collections", begins on page 22, and details a step-by-step process for reducing insurance claim reimbursement denials. You really don't want to miss this one! Incorporating these ideas in your office procedure is certain to make you money! Also, you may notice this issue's absence of a Seminar Tour column for the first time in over a year. We'll be discontinuing the Seminar Tour for the next couple of issues to give me some time to have a baby! I'm expecting my first child by the end of the year, hence you'll be noticing more and more articles on Chiro-pediatrics and chiropractic care for the pregnant patient in the future. (See a reader's question in the Forum on page 8 of this issue for a starter.). Don't worry, though! We'll be resuming our Seminar Tour coverage early next year, so keep sending me hints and suggestions on seminars you'd like to see featured. I'll start doing my research now! As always, be sure to look us up at: www.chirofusion.com or e-mail me at: [email protected] to send us your comments on past and current articles, so we can continue to bring you more of the stories and information you're looking for! It's always great to hear from you. Keep up the great work! Jaclyn Busch Touzard For chiropractic,
