Chiropractic treatments have come a long way. Starting out with adjusting the spine of a patient via the hands of the therapist only, it has now evolved into a more scientific, holistic and comprehensive way of treating people. Most chiropractic doctors now incorporate massage, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, relaxation, and various other modalities into their more traditional "hand delivered" adjustments. To compliment treatments and to comfort patients between visits, a variety of pain relieving creams, gels, lotions and sprays are being used. Lotions and creams have been the first form of analgesics used by the chiropractic profession and their patients, then followed by gels in the 1970's and, now, the more convenient sprays. The advantage of an analgesic spray is that it is a more sanitary to use, and a cleaner way of delivering the product. There is no need to clean or wipe off hands after use. This saves time and makes it more convenient for the applying therapist. Beside the delivery systems, the difference between lotions, gels, creams and sprays in these products are the ingredients and their percentages. Patients determine which product relieves their specific pain the best and most efficiently. Pain relief products also serve as a good profit center for chiropractic offices in today's difficult economic times.
