What Does it Take to be the Number One Instrument-Adjusting Technique i Chiropractic?
In 58 years of practice, I have been asked the question in the headline many times. The answer is we play by the rules. We take no shortcuts regarding research, regulations, and expertise in engineering new activators.
First, I have been asked often how to research and develop an instrument. I practiced in a small town in Minnesota for 25 years, and we saw more than 1,000 patients a week. Frankly, my wrists, elbows, and shoulders were giving out, and practitioners have discovered many things when looking for a better way to do things. Even though the profession refers to instrument adjusting as a separate technique, it actually is a mainstream chiropractic treatment method because over 70% of all chiropractors have or use an instrument on their patients.
We have never copied anyone else’s research and have always hired the best experts we could find. We now have over 150 peer-reviewed papers and 30 clinical trials about instrument adjusting, which took 40 years to complete because research is very time-consuming and expensive.
To support further advancements, we contribute a portion of the income from our instrument purchases to the National Institute of Chiropractic Research, which is dedicated to funding ongoing research initiatives. The recent study, “A randomized controlled trial comparing different sites of high-velocity low amplitude thrust on sensorimotor integration parameters,” led by Heidi Haavik explored the effects of targeted spinal interventions on sensorimotor integration.1 That commitment to cutting-edge research underscores our dedication to advancing chiropractic knowledge and improving patient care.
