SMILE
It is the greatest gift you can give someone. A smile builds the recipient’s self-esteem and makes them feel good about themselves.
Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, “I like you. You make me happy, and I am glad to see you. I appreciate you.”
It is why dogs are always such a big hit. They are so glad to see us that they almost jump out of their skin. So, naturally, we are glad to see them too. Why? Because they are our biggest fan, and how could you not like your biggest fan?
Now I am not talking about an insincere grin or a fake smile — that doesn’t fool anybody. I am talking about a real sincere smile, a heartfelt smile, a smile that comes from the heart.
Our patients need to know that they really matter to us. What better way to tell them then with a smile? We love them in and love them out.
Here are three steps you can take to show up with a great smile:
Step 1: Happiness is an inside job — a choice. So choose to be happy because it is a lot more fun than choosing to be sad.
Step 2: Put up a sign that says “SMILE” where your team can see it for a constant reminder. A joyful, happy, and enthusiastic practice will always be a successful and growing practice. Then lead by example.
Step 3: Put up a sign that says, “Please take responsibility for the energy you bring.” Success is a team sport.
When you smile you are opening up your heart. The world stops to notice because you are amazing just the way you are.
