Zone Technique is a chiropractic technique taught by Peter Goldman, DC, founder of the Zone School of Healing.
The origins of the Zone Technique started in 1931 with Dr. Thurman Fleet, a chiropractor in San Antonio, Texas, who created Zone Therapy. Many consider Dr. Fleet to have gotten the greatest healing results in the history of the profession. The police in San Antonio had to re-route traffic patterns to accommodate the patients going to Dr. Fleet’s office when he was open for adjusting hours. He also had to move his office three times to conform to fire codes because there were too many people in his office at one time. Patients came to Dr. Fleet from all over the nation to heal from ailments that other chiropractors and medical doctors didn’t know where to start with treating. A large percentage of these patients were coming to Dr. Fleet with seemingly very severe non-musculoskeletal conditions that stumped the medical and chiropractic communities.
Dr. Fleet’s Zone Therapy analyzed the body’s six main systems — glandular, eliminative, nerve, digestive, muscular, and circulatory. He found that the brain had six main brain centers that controlled these systems. He said that any disease was the physical result of one or more of these six systems needing healing.
Dr. Fleet compared the human body to an electrical machine, with the brain being the positive pole and the spinal cord being the negative pole. He taught that, on a physical level, a brain center that needed healing could be addressed by the stimulation of four points in the spinal cord, and that each brain center (positive pole) has four corresponding levels of the cord (negative pole) that correlated to it. He determined which brain center needed attention by palpating occipital fibers on the superior nuchal line.
On a side note, this has nothing to do with sacro-occipital technique (SOT) occipital fiber palpation for a few reasons. SOT has 21 points, and Zone has 6; Zone points indicate vastly different things from SOT points, which you will understand once you start learning the technique.
The zones have a physical aspect (summarized earlier) and a metaphysical aspect. Understanding the meta-
physical aspect of healing played a significant role in Dr. Fleet’s amazing results. Bringing together both aspects of healing paved the way for Dr. Fleet’s 40-year journey teaching DCs all over the country to efficiently help people who were essentially deemed helpless.
Dr. Goldman was first exposed to Dr. Fleet’s work at a very young age since his family chiropractor in Brooklyn, New York, was a direct student of Fleet. Fast forward to the early 1990s when Dr. Goldman started chiropractic school at Life College, where he sought out four of Dr. Fleet’s direct disciples (not affiliated with Life College at all). They started teaching him while he was in school, and he spent over 100 hours with each of them to learn and study the technique.
After graduating from Life College, Dr. Goldman combined what he learned from his four mentors of Dr. Fleet’s lineage and started practicing. Patients have flown from over 30 different cities and countries around the world to see Dr. Goldman, reminiscent of Dr. Fleet’s days in San Antonio.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Goldman has created Zone Technique, which is a distillation of what he has learned from his Dr. Fleet-trained mentors, as well as many other influences he has had in metaphysics, healing, and martial arts. Some of Dr. Goldman’s main influences are Nisargadatta Maharaj, Koichi Tohei, Soshu Shigeru Oyama (his Kyokushin karate master), D.D. Palmer, Yogi Ramacharaka, Swami Vivekananda, George Gurdjieff, Pyotr Ouspensky, and Miyamoto Musashi.
Five years ago, Dr. Goldman decided he wanted to share his knowledge with the profession so that suffering individuals wouldn’t have to fly across the world to see him to get help. So he created the Zone School, an online program for chiropractors. The basic course contains 50 hours of healing knowledge. The Zone Technique is taught, as well as the principles of healing at the highest level available.
Dr. Goldman’s Zone Technique is a spinal cord stimulation technique to heal the brain — not an intersegmental bone-moving technique. In chiropractic, the “safety pin cycle” theory assumes the brain is sending out proper signals, which can be potentially blocked by vertebral misalignments or subluxations causing disease. The chiropractor is to then locate and relieve these subluxations by aligning the spine in an effort to unblock these brain signals so that they can freely travel to the cells in the body. The theory makes sense on the surface, but what if the brain isn’t balanced and sending out faulty signals in the first place? Then all you have done is opened up the pathway for a potentially flawed brain signal to travel through the body. As you know, for this reason (and others), many people who are adjusted regularly are still not healthy. Zone Technique efficiently determines which brain centers are not functioning properly and balances them with gentle spinal cord stimulation.
Furthermore, a very important component of healing is understanding that the body is a reflection of the concepts in the subconscious mind. Knowing how to access the subconscious mind and create a proper healing concept is crucial in healing at the highest level. This is all clearly taught in Zone School.
In summary, the proper application of the Zone Technique coupled with the high-level knowledge of the principles of healing taught in Zone School leads to unparalleled results. The technique has gained immense popularity worldwide over the past few years because it’s fun to learn and easy to integrate into practice. An average patient visit is five minutes or less, making it very efficient without having to change the way you physically adjust.
This has been a game changer for myself and the over 1,000 members of Zone School. Nothing should make you more fulfilled in your office than helping a suffering individual who has gone to several chiropractors, MDs, acupuncturists, homeopaths, etc., without receiving the results they hoped to find and then achieving healing in your office. This is why Dr. Goldman created the Zone School of Healing and why Zone School members are getting the best results in the profession.
