For parents, there is no greater tragedy than the loss of a child, particularly a young child. In this context, most parents will do virtually anything to protect their children and make their lives better.

When COVID emerged, state and federal authorities continually delivered their key COVID talking points —social distance, wash your hands, and, most importantly, wear a mask. One family of four took this even further. When the father came home from work, he disinfected his shoes, immediately put his clothes in the wash, and quickly took a shower. In other words, this family thought they were doing everything they possibly could to protect against being infected. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and the severely obese 12-year-old daughter died from COVID-191.

At this point, very few would likely argue that wearing a mask has become a media focus. You don’t just need to social distance; you need to social distance and wear a mask. In fact, we also are told repeatedly that if you do not wear a mask, you do not care about others, and worse, you may infect someone and cause them to die. Such emotional messaging of the authoritarian COVID talking points rapidly penetrated the minds of the public and led to related behavioral changes, with the most obvious being universal mask-wearing and the associated belief that masks are the key to dealing with COVID.

With that in mind, on March 10, 2020, I posted a video on my DeFlame Nutrition YouTube channel titled “How Obesity Increases Coronavirus Severity.” On April 8, 2020, I posted another video that explained how weight gain during lockdown would make people fatter and cause a second wave of coronavirus infections that would be worse than the first. At that time, news outlets began to publish articles about the obesity issue. Unfortunately, the obesity issue never made it into the authoritarian COVID talking points, which represents a brutal failure on the part of the government and its media outlets. People should have been told to lose weight while staying at home.

In fact, the real message should have been more thorough, such as the five points listed in the following:

1. Get your weight normal

2. Get your glucose levels normal

3. Get your vitamin D level normal

4. Take vitamin C, zinc, etc.

5. Replace refined food calories with vegetation

Very simple and generally has immediate anti-inflammatory benefits that reduce a hyperimmune response to a virus... and there will always be new viruses that emerge, so we should all be prepared. (DeFlame.com)

As previously stated, the parents who lost their obese 12-year-old child truly thought they were doing everything they could to avoid being infected. They did everything that was recommended repeatedly by the authoritarians. Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, our untrustworthy authoritarians failed to deliver the most important message to American families, which is to make their bodies healthy and resilient to viral infections.

Our untrustworthy authoritarians never explained that obese people are more easily infected, stay infected longer, create more viral mutations with increased virulence, shed more viruses, and release more viruses into the environment2,3. The same authoritarians never clearly and consistently broadcast that you need to lose weight and normalize your blood glucose markers to reduce your chances of dying if infected by the coronavirus or seasonal flu virus 2,3. With this in mind, we should not be surprised that none of the news outlets that reported on the tragic death of the 12-year-old girl made an issue about obesity. Instead, the focus was their favorite authoritarian COVID talking point—mask-wearing.

Understand that the typical brainwashed mask wearer might think this article is suggesting to not wear a mask. Masks should be worn when one is in a high infection-risk environment. However, a mask is not needed in a no-risk infection environment. The fact that we have not been given a mask-wearing metric categorizing no-risk to high-risk environments is quite problematic and only adds to the COVID fear and catastrophizing that continues to the point that Americans overestimate their chances of dying from COVID by 5000%4.

So how long have scientists known that obesity and hyperglycemia are the key drivers of viral infection transmission and disability or death? For more than 100 years, scientists have known that obesity is a key determining factor for the severity of a viral infection. This relationship was first identified during the Spanish flu of 19183. Then, during the “Asian” and “Hong Kong” influenzas of the 1960s, scientists confirmed that obesity and diabetes lead to more deaths and prolonged illness3. This relationship was again confirmed in 2009 during the H1N1 flu (swine flu)3. Not surprisingly, the same holds true for COVID-19, as outlined on the CDC’s website5:

  • Obesity increases the risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
  • Obesity may triple the risk of hospitalization due to COVID-19.
  • Obesity is linked to impaired immune function.
  • As BMI increases, the risk of death from COVID-19 increases.
  • Obesity has been linked to lower vaccine responses, such as the seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and tetanus.

After reading this article, you should notice that we will likely never hear from the mask-wearing authoritarians in government and media that Americans need to lose body fat mass and normalize glucose levels if one wants to get through any viral infection scenario without ill effect. This will only lead to more COVID disabilities and deaths, the blood of which is on their hands.

Dr. David Seaman became aware of the developing research that linked nutrition to the inflammatory process, while in clinical practice in the late 1980s, and noticed that appropriate dietary changes could significantly improve various musculoskeletal and visceral conditions. Based on this experience, he began to focus on nutritional approaches for inflammation/pain control and has followed the related scientific literature ever since. This led to the publication of the first book on nutrition for pain and inflammation, which was followed by many articles and book chapters devoted to this topic. His educational efforts resulted in being awarded the 2006 Academician of the Year by the American Chiropractic Association.
