From the Director's Desk
It happened. We have officially entered the period when ICD-10 is required for compliance by everyone covered in the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA). There has been quite a bit of confusion regarding how this change will impact your clinic. This shift in coding has provoked many to hypothesize that the low reimbursement levels for chiropractic treatment that insurance currently pays will only accelerate with this change. You will appreciate Dr. Ray Foxworth’s relevant perspective on the issue, in his article titled “Cash May be King... but Don’t Forget the Queen”.
If you're determined that it is time to flip the switch, and go full steam ahead with a cash model, you’ll enjoy this month's interview with Miles Bodzin, DC. Dr. Miles Bodzin has been teaching chiropractors to go cash for quite some time, so flip to page 24 now to learn exactly how he is providing chiropractors with a different way of working with patients to provide the care that they want and need.
Also this issue, a nice research review about the link, which is becoming more clear as the studies continue to roll in, regarding chronic pain, dementia, and the potential life changing effect chiropractic may have on each. Flip to page 36 now, to learn more.
Read this one, like you read every one, cover to cover. If you are ever asked, which magazine is your favorite, be sure to say, “The American Chiropractor.” Look for us online, at digital.theamericanchiropractor.com
