In this issue... I t's our annual College and Education Opportunities issue! As chiropractors, you are all connected and the more knowledge you have on what's happening in the schools to shape our future chiropractors, the more you can help to ensure your own success and that of our profession. To that extent, our cover story features five college presidents addressing four major issues for chiropractors—from student loans to the quality of their education. Before reading the college president's remarks, be sure to read, Stanley Greenfield's article, on pg. 24, in which he gives some constructive criticism for the colleges to consider, which you may or may not agree with. Over the years I've heard from many chiropractic students the same sentiments that Stanley expresses in his article, and of course, I've heard stories in which students have no complaints at all. So, to be fair, we wanted to touch base with a few of the colleges—not all colleges are represented as space would not permit, so these schools were selected randomly—to find out what they have to say about some of the issues Stanley's article addresses. See what we found out from these college presidents: Drs. Gerard Clum. James Winterstein, Frank Nicchi, Fabrizio Mancini, and Richard Brassard beginning on page 25—you may be surprised! Then, after reading the feature story, be sure to "Grade Your Alma Mater" and tell us what you think about how well your college prepared you for being a successful chiropractor in our "Quick Fax Back Survey" on page 12. A good closing to the college feature is Dr. Peter Fernandez's article "Starting a New Practice-To Be or Not to Be....an Associate" on page 36. This article is fun and informative and very applicable for you whether you're thinking of being an associate or whether you're just looking to hire one! These guidelines are great and easy to help you before making your next big decision in this area. In the area of politics, there's good news relayed by Dr. Jeffrey Cronk in his article on page 40 which begins by telling how our profession recently joined together to shoot down the Senate Bill 1955. Going further, Dr. Cronk suggests that to prevent future problems like S. 1955 you can get involved now with the "Best Practices" document that is currently being created by the CCGPP (Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters). Read more about the "Best Practices" document on page 40-41. Your review and comments are needed by July 10th in order to ensure that this document will work beneficially to promote your "best practice" principles, so get started today! In closing up this education issue, I want to remind you about a great education opportunity for you to get your CE credits and have fun sponsored by The American Chiropractor. CHIROPRACTIC '07 on Feb. 22-24th, 2007. See more on pages 32-34 and sign up to attend today! As always there's much, much more, packed into this issue, so read on and let us know what you think!
