California Amendment Threatens DC's Access to Acupuncture
July 1 2005

As a chiropractic graduate and a student of acupuncture, I have been affected and offended by the current amendment to California state law that would alter the practice of acupuncture in this state. There has been a motion to get rid of the acupuncture board, which would require patients to be referred to acupuncturists by primary health care practitioners. This includes MD's, DO's, DDS's, and podiatrists. Chiropractors were not included on this list of qualified physicians or "primary health care practitioners", when it's obvious that we are more than qualified. Right now, as it stands, acupuncture is widely used and researched for pain control. It's appalling that we were overlooked in a medicine so relatable to ours, that being pain management. Please help us in informing and acting appropriately to include us in this bill. (Senate Bill 233) Randall Pitlman. D.C.
