May 14, 2013 (Phoenix, Arizona) - The Prescribed Choice line of professional supplements is being redesigned for the healthcare market with new formulations and a new look.

cholesterxplusOf the 53 products in its portfolio, 18 products have been discontinued, four are being reformulated and eight new products will be added over the next quarter, said Gary Goldstein, business manager for the Prescribed Choice (PC) line. The make-over includes a new logo along with redesigned labels and product catalog.

“We are expanding our line of anti-oxidants, which now includes Co-Q 10 in three strengths, grape seed, quercetin and resveratrol, with a krill-oil based astaxanthin/Omega-3/Co-Q 10 supplement, plus a product that combines pterostilbene and resveratrol,” Goldstein noted. “In addition, we are adding ForsLean® (coleus forskohlii) to our existing weight management set of fucoxanthin, hoodia gordnii, and a phospholipid based nutraceutical that addresses weight gain derived from high cortisol levels. Plus, we are going to complement our enteric-coated Omega-3 product with a high-potency Omega-3 fish oil that’s equivalent to the generic on the market – offering 980 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids per softgel.”

Also enhancing the PC line will be a liquid nutraceutical formulated with vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, macro and trace minerals from sea vegetables in a raspberry flavor, designed to support digestive and immune health, and aid in detoxification. Another addition is a combination of Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 in powdered form, available in easy-carry individual packets for mixing with beverages or foods.

Core products undergoing reformulation include Diabetrix Plus, Inflameric Plus, and Stress Defense (with an amino acid complex), as the company updates the portfolio employing new research in the field.

Prescribed Choice is manufactured by Olympian Labs of Phoenix, Arizona, established in 1992 as a supplement supplier with a focus on sports nutrition. It was recently purchased by Besins Healthcare of Bangkok, Thailand, and is led by David Besins and Nicholas Besins as co-CEOs.

Over the last 30 years, Besins Healthcare has established a reputation in the production of innovative drugs for the treatment of gynecological, fertility and obstetrical conditions as well as androgen deficiency. It is a major player in the area of hormonal therapies.

Established four years ago, the heart of the PC portfolio is its special formulations, explained Mr. Goldstein, designed to address conditions as varied as weight management, joint support and pain management, the effects of aging, high glucose and cholesterol, as well as cardiovascular and eye health.

All PC products are made in the USA and pharmaceutical grade standards are applied to their manufacture, using only ingredients tested by third-party laboratories to ensure potency and quality. “Moreover, we employ the most bioavailable forms of vitamins, minerals and herbals,” noted Goldstein, “which includes amino acid chelates for minerals.” Finally, the company uses certified Kosher/Vegetarian Capsules for its vegetarian products and only packages in amber glass bottles, which protect against environmental change and ensure product freshness.

As a corporate sponsor of the 2013 annual conference of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians that convenes in Colorado in July, Prescribed Choice invites attendees to visit them at Booth 107. Physicians interested in samples or product information are invited to contact Mr. Goldstein toll-free at 855-434-4166, by email at ggoldstein@prescribedchoice. com and to visit the PC website at www.prescribedchoice.com.

Life University and ChiroSecure: Partners in historic transition!
Press Release
Written by Dr. Stuart Hoffman
Friday, 19 April 2013 23:52
April 18, 2013, Scottsdale, Arizona: ChiroSecure is pleased to announce that its chiropractic professional liability insurance program has been selected to cover Life University. In a significant and indeed historic move, Life University has announced a change in coverage to ChiroSecure; one of the nation’s most respected chiropractic coverage programs. Life University was motivated to make this change in part based on ChiroSecure’s adamant stance to keep drugs out of Chiropractic.

In a statement on Facebook posted today, Life University President Dr. Guy Riekeman told the chiropractic profession:

The reality is, every chiropractic college has accepted money from the biggest drug pushers and medical advocates in the world when we accepted student loan money from the United States government. And while there’s not much we can do about that and still provide an education to future chiropractors, Life University can strive, in a profound way, to be MORE congruent with our philosophy, principles and values. One of the ways we are doing this is through our insurance coverage.

partnershipNCMIC has been insuring chiropractors and chiropractic colleges for decades (In fact, they currently insure all the colleges, even those who tout being more principled than others.) Recently, executives at NCMIC published that if drugs ever became a part of the practice of chiropractic, they would insure those practitioners. Granted it may be at higher rates, etc., but Life University and particularly our Board of Trustees felt it was inappropriate to work with companies that would support something that is so contrary to our core premise as a college and as a profession based on our philosophy – especially when there are alternatives. Consequently, we have ended our insurance coverage with NCMIC and found coverage from a company who has given us guarantees that they will not insure chiropractors who use drugs in their practices.

To some this may seem to be a symbolic gesture, and it is not our intention to harm any company or individual, but it’s about congruency (not perfection) and taking what steps we can to be ethically aligned with our values and philosophy. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post about another step we have taken to become more congruent with Life University’s philosophy and mission.

ChiroSecure has, for the past 22 years of service to the chiropractic profession, maintained a strict policy of supporting and servicing a drugless, non-surgical chiropractic profession and has spoken in opposition to the inclusion of drugs and other medical procedures in the scope of chiropractic in numerous forums.

As President of ChiroSecure, as a doctor of chiropractic and Life University graduate, I am very pleased by Dr. Riekeman’s actions on behalf of Life and his powerful statement of principle,” said Dr. Stuart E. Hoffman. “I look forward to providing the best possible coverage, prompt and efficient service and the most competitive rates to all members of the Life community and to earn Dr. Riekeman’s trust in this important role.”

ChiroSecure will continue to work publically and tirelessly to maintain the chiropractic profession as a separate and distinct science, art, philosophy and practice, offering a unique pathway to health and healing to patients of all ages, without the use of drugs or surgery.

Palmer College’s chiropractic technology program is recognized as education/internship provider for FCLB’s CCCA certification

Through the Associate of Science in Chiropractic Technology (A.S.C.T.) degree program, Palmer College of Chiropractic, which has offered chiropractic staff training since 1966, has qualified as a PACE-recognized provider for the Certified Chiropractic Clinical Assistant (CCCA) certification offered by the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB).

palmerlogograybkgroundThose students who complete the A.S.C.T. program are considered to have met the required education and internship components for CCCA certification, should they decide to obtain this additional credential, and are eligible to sit for the exam with proof of completion of their A.S.C.T. degree. (See www.fclb.org for exam details.)

Regulatory requirements for training in allied health are changing to meet new demands in an ever-changing healthcare environment,” said Palmer’s Vice Chancellor for Academics Robert Percuoco, D.C. “Palmer’s A.S.C.T. degree program provides graduates with unique chiropractic supportive training to meet such requirements.”

While X-ray training and certification is required by virtually all states, the majority still do not have specific training requirements for staff performing other billable services involving patient contact. The FCLB, which deals with maintaining uniform standards in areas related to chiropractic licensure, regulation, and education, has developed this national clinical chiropractic staff certification to offer continuity from state to state. One motivation to establish a more uniform standard is in reaction to insurance companies’ accreditors who are, in many cases, requiring that those performing billable procedures, such as physiotherapy, be credentialed. States will make individual determinations regarding acceptance of the FCLB’s standard.

The CCCA certification was developed to provide staff training for basic clinical procedures other than radiography. Palmer’s A.S.C.T. program, however, is a comprehensive associate’s degree program offering hands-on training in physiotherapy, patient history-taking, recordkeeping, and performance of physical, orthopedic and neurological exams. In addition, it prepares students to take X-rays, preparing them for the ACRRT certification exam or other state-based radiography exams. Students also are provided with the business management skills needed in a chiropractic office such as insurance billing and coding, bookkeeping, office management, chiropractic philosophy, ethics, communication and more.

According to Cathy Eberhart, director of the A.S.C.T. program, “In our experience, doctors who utilize chiropractic technologists are able to be more productive because they can see more patients in less time.” She further notes that “vicarious liability issues or issues of doctor liability for staff actions should also be reduced due to the stronger knowledge base staff have when comprehensively trained.”  For additional information about the A.S.C.T. program, contact Lisa Gisel at (563) 884-5743, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
