Northwestern Health Sciences University announced today that its president, Dr. Mark Zeigler, has elected to retire effective immediately. The university’s board of trustees confirmed that Provost Dr. Michael Wiles will serve as Interim President.

“We thank Dr. Zeigler for his service to the university these past six years. We wish Mark and Gae well in their future endeavors,” said Dr. Kent Erickson, chairman of the board of trustees. “We are confident that the university will continue to move forward without interruption under Dr. Wiles’ leadership and with the strong, continued support of the faculty and staff.”

“This decision was made after much careful consideration and prayer. It allows Gae and me to pursue new opportunities and direction for our lives.

“I am very proud of the university’s accomplishments during the past six years: a new strategic direction and focus on integration in educational and clinical programs, expanded donor relationships, successful North Central and individual program accreditation, and expansion of the undergraduate and graduate degree programs have enhanced the university’s status as a leader in natural health care education. The new Greenawalt Library, the Wolfe-Harris Center for Clinical Studies, the Standard Process Healing Garden, and modernization of classrooms has improved the quality of both faculty and student experience. Additionally, the Center for Health Care Innovation and Policy positions Northwestern as a leader in shaping health care policy and in developing new care delivery models and relationships.

“The university is an exceptional organization with committed and engaged employees, faculty, partners and especially its alumni. I wish continued success to the entire NWHSU community and look forward to watching it move ahead. We are grateful for the tremendous opportunity offered us by NWHSU; it will always be a special part of our lives.”
