Seneca Falls:  Building on a recently established multi-year affiliation with Foot Levelers, Inc., NYCC is launching a research initiative headed by Professor Dr. Paul Dougherty involving a randomized controlled trial at the Canandaigua VA medical center to assess the effectiveness of custom foot orthotics in veterans with chronic lower back pain and to evaluate the effect of custom foot orthotics on improvement in pain and disability in this patient population. The trial, which will be conducted over a two year period, will actively recruit veterans ages 18 to 65 years who suffer from chronic lower back pain. The initiative is supported by a Foot Levelers, Inc. grant totaling $243,000.  “NYCC has established a proven track record for conducting randomized controlled trials and these projects certainly build on that reputation,” said Dougherty.
