Pets, as family members, are very much a part of the family dynamic, and dependent upon people for choosing their care.  As our loyal friends (and biggest fans), they deserve the finest care available.

Homeopathy offers wonderfully safe solutions for a broad spectrum of health problems perplexing pets as well as patients.  The genius of homeopathy is in its serial dilutions, which move it from the biochemical to the bioenergetic treatment realm. This unique potentization process in homeopathy has led to some criticism by certain scientists who lack perception beyond the molecule, to claim that homeopathy could only be placebo in its actions. Yet history clearly shows that children, infants and animals consistently demonstrate the greatest results with homeopathy.  I call this the “reverse placebo effect.”

The difference is that infants and animals don’t have the capacity to identify themselves with the health condition they are experiencing.  As people, when we grow and develop mentally, we have a tendency to personally identify ourselves with any diseases we experience, calling them names like my arthritis, my allergies, my sciatica, etc. This is especially true with chronic conditions and conditions that have run generationally in our families.  When this happens, the disease can becomes a part of our nature and who we are. That’s why homeopathy works so well with animals and children:  they have no negative self-images or associations or attachments with a disease to overcome.

Legal and Regulatory Issues

I know, with the growing interests in the chiropractic care of animals, that state laws governing veterinary chiropractic are both challenging and in the process of changing.  Veterinarians are very aggressive about their turf and own any treatment to our four legged friends, including chiropractic or even, perhaps, homeopathy.  I believe the best way to address these issues is to join them rather than fight them.

Dr. Bill Inman is a veterinarian teaching VOM animal adjusting techniques to both DC’s and DVM’s.  He has developed a unique win-win approach to this perplexing issue, called a “veterinary affiliate program” that addresses the problems associated with both the chiropractic and homeopathic care of animals.  Perhaps the most important reason for associating yourself with a vet is the immediate transfer of legal and professional liability to the veterinary practitioner.  Other benefits include:

1. The benefit of differential diagnosis for discovering other diseases by the vet that may complicate or compromise chiropractic care.
2. Use of the veterinary office and facilities including X-ray equipment designed for animal use and staff for assistance and restraint of the animal and processing.  Use of sedation/anesthesia when needed.
3. Team approach for optimal results and care of the patient.
4. Increased case load, income, client compliance, additional pet and human referrals and reputation as a visiting expert.
5. Independence of HMO’s, insurance companies and third party managed care.

Most DC’s doing this have multiple veterinary affiliates wanting their services.  With the growing awareness and desire for safe, natural alternative health care, the public wants the same for their animals and this includes chiropractic and homeopathy.  The wise veterinarian sees the market and the demands of their patients’ owners for alternative care.  They can either go back to school and develop themselves or simply and painlessly bring you the alternative practitioner.

Less than 15% of the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) graduates in veterinary acupuncture regularly practice acupuncture.  It is much easier for the vets to bring in alternative specialists than to change their routines in practice.

The American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) approves three 200-hour certification programs.  They train both DC’s and DVM’s and are well organized and structured from both an educational and regulatory perspective, working through colleges and state licensing boards.

The affiliate program is a win-win for both practitioners.  90% of the time, a referred client is a lost client.  Keeping veterinary clients within the clinic prevents this loss.  Both parties receive enhanced professional images and PR benefits.

Our best friends deserve the best care possible.  They enrich our lives enormously, and it’s well within our reach to see that we reciprocate the relationship.  Homeopathy can help us to do just that. TAC

Homeopathy: Claims of Efficacy and Safety - Who says it’s so great?
Alternative Therapies

Because of the rise in confidence concerning wellness and alternative healthcare, chiropractors are at point of definition.  We will be either specialists limited to simple musculoskeletal care or leaders in wellness care.  As the reigning number one natural healthcare profession, we have an excellent opportunity to etch a niche in this next trillion-dollar industry as primary health providers, and homeopathy can significantly help us achieve that position.

Similarities of Chiropractic and Homeopathy

With its similarity in philosophy, mode of action, and effectiveness, homeopathy can take chiropractic higher toward completing the objectives laid out by its founders.  Homeopathy has the ability to correct nerve interferences throughout the brain and periphery of the body.  Chiropractic can be completed with homeopathy, freeing chiropractors to become the doctors of the whole nervous system.  However, there will inevitably be questions as to just how homeopathy makes its claims to be so powerful, yet so safe, and so effective.

As a manufacturer of homeopathic formulas, I am frequently asked for documentation proving safety and efficacy.  I am always eager to introduce people to the exhaustive body of research and clinical trials that demonstrate the amazing safety and effectiveness of homeopathy.  So, exactly who performed all this research?   That’s one of my favorite questions.

Method and Authentication of Testing

Homeopathic remedies follow a highly ordered vitalistic protocol of development and authentication.  The method of authenticating results is nothing shy of genius:  Over a span of two centuries, unique and comprehensive clinical test results called provings have been compiled.  These provings demonstrate how people are vitally interconnected to the elements of their environment and what the symptomatic responses and results are to each of these substances.  This broad spectrum of over 1,300 individual substances is then homeopathically potentized and given to people who display these specific symptomatic patterns, in order to confirm the clinical effectiveness of each homeopathic remedy.  For 200 years, trained professionals have compiled results from this specialized and unprecedented clinical testing, and then meticulously recorded them in works called Homeopathic Materia Medicas and Repertories.

FDA Response to Homeopathy

The FDA and the majority of other regulatory organizations worldwide accept this research and use it to establish guidelines for registration, claims, and labeling.  Homeopathy is the first of all the natural products to have ascended to the status and credibility of being an all-natural drug product registered with the FDA.  The World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledges that homeopathy is the second most widely used medical modality for primary healthcare worldwide.

Homeopathic medicines are made from official homeopathic ingredients recognized by the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS).  Today, the initials “HPUS” on the label assures each permissible ingredient and reviews it for efficacy, toxicity, adverse effects, and clinical effectiveness.

The FDA monitoring process has not revealed any instances of problems with homeopathy.  The absence of side effects and negative drug interactions with homeopathic products establishes a positive safety profile with the FDA. Remarkably, this safety profile makes homeopathy valid and applicable for pregnant and nursing woman, children, and newborns, as well as people on multiple medications.

Selecting Homeopathic Remedies

When considering homeopathy, be certain the products are registered with the HPUS.  With “HPUS” on the label, the manufacturer is required to provide documentation and “proof of claims” for each ingredient of every formula manufactured to be fully compliant to all regulatory guidelines of the FDA and fall within the unprecedented safety and efficacy of homeopathy.  Check to see if the maker is an FDA registered pharmaceutical manufacturing company operating in strict accordance and compliance with the FDA and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

Homeopathy, like chiropractic, offers a vitalistic approach that helps activate innate intelligence.  Homeopathy, with its energetic approach, is deep acting, yet subtle and gentle, unlike biochemical substances that have metabolic effects whether or not they are needed.  The more I have studied homeopathy, the more I have realized that, when it is combined with chiropractic, it adds a dimension of balancing innate intelligence not found in the chiropractic adjustment alone.

I strongly suggest selecting a homeopathic company that manufactures its own products within these homeopathic guidelines.  Also, when choosing a homeopathic company to work with, find one with clinical experience that educates practitioners with procedures and protocols that are relevant to our profession.

Homeopathy offers us, literally, the safest products on the planet and has repeatedly passed the test of time and adversity.  No other nutritional, herbal, or allopathic products on earth have passed this level of scrutiny. TAC
